TAMPA, FL (February 25, 2025) — State Attorney Suzy Lopez appointed Statewide Prosecutor Nick Cox as the new Chief Assistant State Attorney for the 13th Judicial Circuit. Cox is a career prosecutor known for his statewide efforts to combat drug trafficking, gang violence, and organized crime.
In his new role, Cox will be responsible for supervising the office’s felony divisions which include the most complex and serious cases in Hillsborough County. His leadership and extensive experience in the courtroom will enhance our office’s ability to hold dangerous offenders accountable while seeking justice for victims.
This is a homecoming for Cox, who served this office as an Assistant State Attorney for nearly a decade. After leaving that role in 1997, he worked at the Office of the Attorney General before becoming the Regional Director for the Department of Children and Families. For the last 15 years, Cox served as the Statewide Prosecutor, working closely with former Florida Attorneys General Pam Bondi and Ashley Moody to strengthen public safety throughout the State of Florida.
